UK National Rail Strike 25 & 26 May.

Members of the RMT and TSSA Unions that work for track and infrastructure operator Network Rail have announced that they are planning to take industrial action on Bank Holiday Monday 25 May and Tuesday 26 May. However, further talks between Network Rail and the trades unions are currently taking place, which may still lead to resolution of the dispute.

Should the industrial action go ahead there is likely to be severe disruption to rail services on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 May, although this is likely to vary considerably by route, so you are strongly advised to check with the relevant train company before travelling.

Important information for anyone travelling to South Africa with a child.

Effective June 1st 2015, and regardless of the time of booking, all minors under 18 years of age travelling to and from South Africa will now have to present additional documents which were not needed until now. The new regulations apply to all travellers, regardless of their nationality. They were set out in terms of the South African Immigration Amendment Act of 2010 and define children as being under the age of 18.

It is the responsibility of adult passengers to ensure their children have the correct documentation or risk being denied boarding. The new law will be enforced by airlines and immigration officials across the board (land, sea and air).

Required documentation:
• When both parents are travelling with a child they need to produce an unabridged birth certificate that shows the names of both parents. In cases where the certificate is in a language other than English, it must be accompanied by a sworn translation issued by a competent authority in the country concerned.

• When a child travels with only one parent, additional documents should include an affidavit in which the absent parent gives consent for the child to travel, a court order granting full parental responsibilities or legal guardianship of the child, or the death certificate of the absent parent. The affidavit should be no more than three months old, from date of travel.

• In the case of a child travelling with a person other than a parent, the unabridged birth certificate must be supplemented by affidavits from the parents or legal guardians confirming that the child may travel with that person, copies of the identity documents or passports of the parents or legal guardian, and the contact details of the parents or legal guardian.

• Similarly, a child travelling as an unaccompanied minor would have to produce the unabridged birth certificate, proof of consent from both parents, or legal guardian and contact details, plus documentation relating to the person receiving the child in the Republic. The latter documentation should include a letter stating the person’s contact details and residential address and contact details where the child will be residing, plus a copy of his or her identity document, passport or residence permit.
All documents must either be original or certified as true copies of the original, by a competent authority. Documents not in English must be accompanied by a sworn translation.

Planned Industrial Action Across Europe in April.

Please note that French air traffic controllers have another strike scheduled for Thursday 16th April. Once we (GTM) have confirmation we will update our customers accordingly.

Please also note that on Wednesday 22nd April there will be a national strike in Belgium which is expected to affect the entire Belgian rail network. This will also affect train services operated by Eurostar, ICE trains to Germany and TGV & Thalys trains to/from France.

New UK Passport Exit Checks.

Data on all passengers leaving the UK will now be collected and handed to the Home Office. The new scheme will be phased in at the country’s ports and border crossings.

Officials will now record the details of all travellers leaving by air, sea and rail. It is thought that the new checks will have a dis-proportionate affect on cross-channel ferry and Channel Tunnel travellers.

For the first month all passports will be scanned, but only 25% of the passport holders will have their details verified to ensure they are genuine, in a bid to minimise disruption. After a month, there will be a move to 50% verification and by the middle of June 100% verification will be introduced.

French ATC Strike 8 & 9 April.

Please note we have just been informed that there will be an air traffic controllers strike across France tomorrow, Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th April.

As a result, the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) has mandated the cancellation of a number of flights for all airlines using French airspace. Also, and because of the number of aircraft using French airspace, there may be knock-on effects for other airlines and flights over-flying France.

Please ensure that if you are due to fly tomorrow, or Thursday, that you remember to checkin online for your flight, as this will ensure that the most up to date flight information reaches you in a timely fashion.

Belgium National Strike – 22nd April

Please be aware that there is a national strike in Belgium on 22 April 2015. Early indications show that participation is expected to be widespread. The Belgian Railway Network is likely to be closed and an amended Eurostar timetable will be put in place (trains will terminate at and depart from Lille on the continent). As a precaution, sales for Eurostar tickets to and from Brussels are currently closed for sale for this date.
