Effective 30 March 2014, Finnair will operate a fifth daily service between London Heathrow and Helsinki.

The airline has announced today that this extra rotation will offer even more choice for passengers flying onwards to the Far East, to where Finnair has an extensive network.   To celebrate this new route Finnair is offering special Business and Economy Class fares which will be available for sale from Monday 17th February 2014.

The economy class fare will be just £9 (but plus the usual airport and government taxes unfortunately!), the Business Class fare will be higher at £392 (it’s less than 3 hours flying time) plus taxes.

The applicable travel period is from 30th March  – 31st May 2014 and bookings can be made from Monday 17th February.

Almost 1,500 flights have already been cancelled across the U.S. in advance of a snow storm that is forecast to bury the Northeast and usher in another bone-chilling polar plunge in temperatures.

The brunt of the storm is expected to slam the busy Washington, D.C. – Philadelphia – New York corridor Tuesday with heavy snow and brutally cold temperatures. Airlines already cancelled just under 1,500 flights in affected areas as of late Monday evening.
Forecasts are calling for coastal regions to be hit harder than inland areas during the powerful storm, crippling travel at airports, on trains and by car.

Between eight and 12 inches is forecast to fall in coastal regions from New York to Washington, D.C., which would make it the biggest storm to hit the capital in three years.The double threat storm will also force wind chills well below zero from the nation’s interior out towards the East Coast and the nation’s capital, where residents can expect what could be the most snow since an historic blizzard hit in January 2011.

Light snow was already falling Monday afternoon across much of the Great Lakes and down through the Ohio River Valley, but the real headaches and potential dangers will come by evening as residents in Minnesota will experience -20F temperatures and it won’t get much higher than the teens south to Virginia, through the Northeast and into New England by Tuesday.

The grim forecast caused airlines to cancel 1,449 Tuesday flights as of late Monday evening
