Paris – Terror Suspects in Siege Close to Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Please note that we (GTM) have been advised of the following news report this morning which is affecting flights in to and out of Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.

A shoot-out is unfolding close to Charles de Gaulle Airport as the hunt for the two suspects in Wednesday’s terror attack in Paris continues.

According to the live Twitter feed of French newspaper Le Monde, two of the airport’s runways have been closed, several landings have been aborted and flights cancelled as police helicopters gather in the area.

Reports say the suspects have taken at least one hostage in the building of a printing business on an industrial park about five miles from the airport.

Shots have reportedly been fired in a car chase near the airport as Elite armed police close in.

British Airways Lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol.

British Airways has opened the latest of its refurbished lounges at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.

The new lounge, which has been designed by international interiors group Graven, reflects the style and elegance of the airline’s flagship Galleries lounges at Heathrow Terminal 5. There is a deli area for light dining and a stylish bar with complimentary wines, spirits and soft drinks.

Power points are available at most of the seats around the lounge to enable customers to work from their own personal devices. They will also have the ability to print wirelessly to a printer in the lounge.

The move is part of the major transformation to the airports central security area. This also means that there is a temporary walk way to the lounge making the lounge to gate journey roughly a 15-20 minute walk. The lounge has views over the run-way so customers can watch the planes come and go at this busy airport.

This is the latest British Airways lounge to be refurbished with other recent refurbishments at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cape Town and Washington airports.

Important Message – UK Airspace Capacity Restrictions.

National Air Traffic Control Services (NATS) have confirmed that a technical problem this afternoon, Friday 12th December, has been reported at Swanwick air traffic control centre.

UK airspace has not been closed, but airspace capacity has been restricted in order to manage the situation. NATS apologise for any delays and their incident response team has been mobilised.

Every possible action is being taken to assist in resolving the situation and to confirm the details.

British Airways First, Club World & World Traveller Plus customers can now guarantee their first choice of main course from the on-board á la carte menu up to 30 days before their flight. The option to pre-order their meal through the Manage My Booking tool on ba.com enables the delivery of a more tailored, individual service. The new service is available between London Heathrow and Las Vegas, Phoenix, Rio de Janeiro, Vancouver, Dallas and Seattle with new routes to be added in early 2015.

New Routes For 2015.

A new direct service between London Heathrow and Krakow will launch in May 2015, in addition to the recently announced new double daily service to Bilbao in March. Also announced is the launch of our Airbus A380 service to Miami in October, the seventh destination served by the aircraft along with Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Washington, Singapore and San Francisco. Miami will be one of several British Airways destinations moving to a new Heathrow terminal in 2015 as a result of the closure of Terminal 1. We are taking the opportunity to consolidate our London Heathrow operations into two terminals – Terminal 3 and Terminal 5, with all moves completed by October 2015.

British Airways is working with First Great Western Trains and Heathrow Express to introduce a new proposition available via it’s travel agency partners. From 5 December we (GTM) can now make integrated bookings to include both, a British Airways flight/s and a connecting train journey on selected First Great Western services, via the Heathrow Express from Paddington.

As well as giving you the convenience of being able to book a complete itinerary in one simple transaction, customers will have peace of mind that their onward journey is protected in case their train or flight are delayed.

Lufthansa Pilots’ Strike.

The pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit has announced a strike for all Lufthansa short-haul and continental (Europe) flights departing between 12.00 CEST on December 1st to 23.59 CEST on December 2nd, and for all intercontinental flights departing between 03:00 CEST to 23:59 CEST on December 2nd.

During the strike period disruptions of Lufthansa flights are expected. Lufthansa is currently working intensely on a special timetable for the strike period. All flights operated by the Lufthansa Group airlines Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Germanwings, SWISS and Air Dolomiti (operated by OS, SN, 4U, LX, EN) will not be affected.

Weather related flight cancellations at some UK airports.

Much of the UK and Northern Europe will experience high winds and heavy rain today, Tuesday 21st October, as a result of the tail-end of Hurricane Gonzalo.

British Airways has agreed with a request from Heathrow Airport and National Air Traffic Services (NATS) to reduce its schedule at Heathrow as there will be a lower number of aircraft allowed to land each hour for safety reasons.

Other airports around the UK have also reduced the number of aircraft they are able to handle. Please remember to check in online for your flight and ensure that we (Global Travel Management) have your contact details.

Lufthansa Strike 20th October

Lufthansa pilots have called a strike for Monday, triggering a new wave of flight cancellations. The walkout at Europe’s largest airline comes just as Germany recovers from a major train strike over the weekend
In their latest battle to keep early retirement benefits, Lufthansa pilots have announced a 35-hour strike beginning early Monday afternoon, the eighth such work stoppage to hit Europe’s largest airline in less than half a year. The walkout, called by the pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit, is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. local time on Monday and last until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday. Lufthansa has cancelled 1,450 short and medium-haul flights, grounding more than 130,000 passengers.

Travelers should visit Lufthansa’s website to check whether their flight has been cancelled. Passengers facing a flight cancellation can book an alternative connection free of charge or exchange their ticket to travel by train. Lufthansa has asked all travellers to check their flight status prior to departure.

Long-haul services affected by the industrial action include all Lufthansa flights on Airbus A380, A340 and A330 planes, as well as any national flights on Boeing 747s, the union said.
The short- and medium-haul flights on the Airbus A320 family, Boeing 737 and Embraer-made planes will be cancelled during the strike.
The strike will not affect Lufthansa’s international subsidiaries Swiss and Austrian Airlines.
