We are currently running two promotions to celebrate GTM’s 20th anniversary. These promotions are our opportunity to share some of the exclusive beer we have commissioned. One promotion is available on our Facebook page (facebook.com/GTMOL) and one is available on our Twitter account (twitter.com/GlobalTravelMgnt).

Here are the terms and conditions.

1.       The promotions are in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook or Twitter.

2.       You understand that you are providing your information to us as the owner of our Facebook page and not to Facebook or to Twitter.

3.       To enter the promotion on Facebook, you simply “like” our Facebook page.

4.       You may also share the promotion post on Facebook, “like” the promotion post, comment on the promotion post or tag other people in comments on the promotion post – however, doing any of these things does not constitute entry into the promotion, nor are any of these things required.

5.       To enter the promotion on Twitter, you simply follow our Twitter account and retweet the promotion tweet.

6.       We will choose one person (“the winner of the promotion on Facebook”) who has liked our Facebook page to receive six bottles of Globe Trotter beer.

7.       If the winner of the promotion on Facebook has also tagged someone in a comment on the promotion post, that person may also receive three bottles of Globe Trotter beer.

South Africa: Workers of South African Airways threaten to strike this weekend, talks continue

South African Airways (SAA) said late on Tuesday afternoon that it has been served with a notice of intention to start industrial action by a labour union. The industrial action is a consequence of a wage increase disagreement. SAA’s maintenance subsidiary, SAA Technical (SAAT), received a notice of the intention to embark on industrial action at the weekend from one labour union following the tabling of a wage increase proposal by SAAT.

Parties have held several other meetings since the notice was served and are expected to meet again on Wednesday morning, according to SAA. SAA said that once it received the notification, it began to review and update its contingency measures to ensure business continuity and to minimize the impact of strike action on its operations.

The airline will issue a follow-up communication on Wednesday morning after the meeting with the unions advising whether the strike is in fact taking place or the extent to which the strike has affected its operations if at all.

Ryanair releases list of all cancelled flights through 28 October

Ryanair has released a list of upcoming flight cancellations over the next six weeks.

The list, published on the airline’s website, reports that the cancellations will occur between 19 September and 28 October, and are expected to effect some 50 flights per day.

All Ryanair flights booked by GTM are being checked and monitored and travellers will be advised of any amendments.

U.S.: Update: Some 12,600 flights cancelled through 12 September worldwide as Hurricane Irma barrels toward Atlanta as Category-2 storm

Hurricane Irma is grounding travellers as far away as London and Doha, and cancellations will likely continue well into the week.

Flights will be suspended at Miami International Airport, Florida’s busiest, through Monday after the airport suffered “significant water damage,” the airport’s chief executive said late Sunday.

Airlines on four continents have cancelled around 12,600 flights through Tuesday because of the storm, according to plane tracker Flight Aware. That number is set to rise as a weakened yet still powerful Irma heads north near Atlanta — a Delta Air Lines hub and the world’s busiest airport.

The National Hurricane Centre has downgraded Irma to a Category 2 hurricane, but the storm is still barrelling up Florida’s west coast, bashing the state with heavy rains and fierce winds.

Passport Immigration Queues

The media are reporting on Passport Immigration queues at several European airports with customers experiencing delays due to extra checks on both arrivals and departures.

The main delay issues which ebb and flow at different parts of the day are in Lyon(LYS), Milan Linate (LIN), Madrid (MAD) and Barcelona (BCN), but other airports are affected as well especially on peak days on some of the Spanish islands.

Please advise our customers if they mention these delays that British Airways flights continue to operate as planned, these extra checks are beyond our control but we apologise for any inconvenience to their journey through the airport. We advise departing customers to allow extra time as they may experience longer queues at this busy time of the year.

BA Mixed Fleet Cabin Crew Strike.

Please note that the next round of industrial action being taken by members of British Airways Mixed Fleet cabin crew will begin on Wednesday 2nd August and run until Tuesday 15th August (inclusive).

All flights to and from London Gatwick, London City and Stansted will operate as normal. The vast majority of flights to and from London Heathrow will also operate as normal, however, some service (from Heathrow) will be affected.

Therefore, it is important that all passengers check in online and ensure that BA have your mobile phone number and email address in case they need to contact you.

We (GTM) will also contact any customers whose flights are affected the moment our systems receive notification from BA.

Enhanced Screening For USA Bound Flights.

Please note that from tomorrow, 19 July 2017, increased security screening will come into effect for all flights to the USA, passengers should, therefore, expect longer waiting times at the airport particularly with the peak summer season upon us. Please check with your airline for their recommended check-in times, Swiss, for example, is recommending at least three hours before departure.

The new measures have been implemented by the US Dept for Homeland Security and will affect all US bound flights from 105 countries worldwide and 280 airports. Also included in the enhanced screening will be additional checks on personal electronic devices, including mobile phones larger than 16cm in length, 9.3cm in width and 1.5cm depth, laptops, tablets and e-readers. It is also recommended that all devices have sufficient power to be turned on in case they need to be checked. However, these electronic devices can still be taken into the aircraft cabin.

Italy: Nationwide transport strike hits trains, buses, underground lines, air travel

A 24-hour transport strike on Friday meant longer waits and disruption to the journeys of thousands, with trains, buses, underground lines, and air travel all affected.

Some sectors began the strike on Thursday evening, with the disruption expected to continue until the end of service on Friday.

In Rome, the LuceVerde site which provides real-time updates on traffic congestion, warned that traffic was moving more slowly than usual on all the major roads in and out of the centre. The Metro was not running at all, together with the Roma-Lido train line.

For the latest updates, commuters are advised to check the websites of transport company ATAC or Muoversi a Roma.

Two overlapping strikes have been called by different union groups in the capital, one of four and one of 24 hours. The strike action will affect local buses, trains, and underground lines, with service guaranteed between 5 pm and 8 pm. Disturbance is likely to be worst between 11 am and 3 pm, when both strikes will be happening simultaneously.

In Milan, the strike was called between 8:45 am and 3 pm and from 6 pm until the end of service. Transport company ATM said mid-morning on Friday that the Metro line 5 was suspended while a “good service” was operating on lines 1, 2, and 3.

In Florence, local bus drivers will strike between 3:15 pm and 7:15 pm, while in Bologna and Ferrara, disruption to local buses and trains is expected all day, though service is guaranteed before 8:30 am and between 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm.

Those undertaking longer journeys could be at risk of disruption too, with the strike affecting national train, aeroplane, and even boat services

Airport workers will undertake a 24-hour strike, while cabin crew are striking for between four and 14 hours.
